Who am I?

My name is Ruth Kudzi and I’m an experienced coach and mentor. I want to help you build a life and business that you love, where you feel fulfilled and have the financial rewards you deserve.

With over 25+ years of studying Psychology & Neuroscience, a background in school leadership and education and 10 years+ of coaching - including 4 1/2 years running a successful coaching business - stepping into coach training just made sense for me!

I love being a coach trainer because it combines my passion for neuroscience and psychology with strong teaching and coaching skills. I get to pair it with my experience in business growth and development - I absolutely love what I do!

My credentials have taken years to build up and I believe in life long learning and development. It’s why I’ve dedicated (and continue to dedicate) my life to expanding my skillset. There’s always so much more to learn...

Have you always felt inspired to make an impact and support people in achieving their goals?

Is it the right time? (What better a post about time than to have a photo in Greenwich!)

I have been having a lot of chats with people about the Professional Coach Diploma over is it the right time.

Some people it's really not the right time : if you are home schooling young kids on your own with no childcare options or support then I am with you on waiting (and sending you a lot of supportive vibes)

If you are finishing off a degree / masters / other course I am with you on waiting.

If you are caring for someone and don't have the support right now: I hear you

These are some examples when it's good to wait..

Generally (if you have the money to invest) my question is: what will be different if you wait?

And by waiting are you delaying what you really want to do?

This came up on my phone as 3 years ago.

I was making 6 figures as a coach and had joined a high level mastermind with some amazing people..

I remember I really didn't feel like I was good enough : I still thought I had to be more like other people to do well.

Three years on I run two successful businesses, I have more time (normally - not with lockdown!) and have a great team and I rarely feel that good enough vibe.

What made the difference? For me it was the inner mindset work, it was the energy work and it was really starting to practice genuine self acceptance and gratitude 🙏

Imagine where you will be three years from now? What support do you need right now to get there?

Resilience is a quality that’s highly admired.

And for good reason! Those that are most resilient tend to get the best results.

As coaches it’s something that we should be aiming to develop within our clients. We can start to do this by demonstrating resilience ourselves, setting a good example.

To most people resilience means slogging away working every hour under the sun, pushing through burnout and showing up no matter what.

But this simply isn’t true.

Resilience is not working yourself to a state where you are an emotional wreck. Putting up with whatever people throw at you isn’t resilience!

Resilience is an inner feeling of certainty that allows steady, purposeful progress. It also means persisting even when you have setbacks, not letting that rejection wound you personally.

I’m curious. What’s your definition of resilience?

Have you told yourself a story that it means working harder and longer hours until you can prove your success? Is there an inner belief that you need to ‘put up and shut up’ if you want to demonstrate resilience?

🤝 Meet Amy Leighton.

Amy already had a business when she joined the coach training and it is now going in a new direction thanks to the work she has been doing.

What made you think the coach training was for you?

👉🏻 So it's something I had wanted to do for years. Over the last six or seven years, I dipped out, in and out of so many different tastes and weekends and different kind of sample afternoons. I just never quite found one that felt right and I was always so conscious that I was going to just feel like I was one of hundreds in a cohort.

Over the summer decided okay, this is something that I'm going to look into seriously now I've got the time, why not let's do it.

⭐️ The course has a balance of coaching, of psychology and neuroscience which is
something that I really wanted. I'm not one of hundreds, as you say, it has a really personal element to it. I feel really supported in it as well every step of the way.

I now have coaching clients which is brilliant.

What is next for Amy?

🔥 I have decided that I'm going to go into confidence and mindset coaching and am looking forward to working on that deeper level and looking at what makes people tick. It is super exciting.

When your business is built on your strengths, you encounter far less friction!

It seems an obvious strategy: do what you’re good at.

But I often see coaches or business leaders getting wrapped up in what they THINK others need from them.

That leads to people spreading themselves too thinly and expending energy in ALL directions, rather than one key area.

Is this happening in your business? Are you wasting days, weeks even on time-consuming aspects of your business that, actually, are slowing it all down?

Remember, you don’t have to be everything for everyone and have all of the answers….

You simply have to find your area of expertise and who it is you want to help.

Why is coaching such a growth industry?

📈 Coaching is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world.
If we take a step out of the online world and look at the organizational level we can see why coaching works. It helps empower people to make their own decisions and be autonomous and it gives people space to make decisions by tapping into slower more deliberate thinking and building their intuition.

🔥 Evidence suggests that over 70% of people report positive results from working with a skilled coach both on their mindset and confidence and on their performance.

👉🏻 At an organizational and economic level if you want your employees to perform better it is no surprise that coaching is moving down from the c-suite as an intervention that is invested in.
👉🏻 On a personal level, I have seen the huge differences in performance and relationships from having a coaching approach when I was a school leader and the highest performing school leaders use a coaching approach (there is evidence that this leadership style is most impactful across all sectors).

Put simply it works.

The universe was listening today and gave us all a treat.

Funny how some white flakes could give so much joy 🤩

We then had tears and tantrums and all wanted to be in the warm

Look for opportunities..

As someone with a background in Psychology and Education I knew that the current coach training on the market was varied in quality.

There are some amazing courses (and I have done some of them) and then there were some which were very basic, lacked depth and seemed to be all about bums on seats (in my opnion and from feedback from others)

PLUS there seems to be this inconsistency in sharing how courses will actually get you accredited status.

AND courses are either heavy on the business building: you can earn £5, 10K months etc by doing this (and little on the how)

OR heavy on the theory and coaching with nothing on the business.

I wanted to disrupt the market and offer something different (and in my opinion better) something which looked at pedagogy so each week we built on concepts, something which really went to the source of behaviour change and something which helped people get clients as well as be a great coach.

I genuinely have NO IDEA why this was not on the market before: I did exactly what I have learned in business and put my clients right at the heart of the program design:
What do they need from coach training:

Strong coaching skills which help them get clients results: this is why we teach a variety of approaches and we give regular feedback on people's coaching

Examples of excellent coaching we both model and share example sessions so people can see what good coaching looks like plus we put people in triads so they can observe coaching practice

Developmental support so they can get feedback on where they are and what they need to focus on through mentoring and session feedback which is competency based

Business building support so they can get coaching clients and grow their businesses in different sectors

PLUS they want to feel valued as if they are part of something where the trainers, mentors and assessors are there to support them and help them.

We respect and invest in every single person who comes onto our course and ensure that they have the support they need: we can't guarantee 7 figures, we can guarantee that they will be supported throughout.

Probably the best photo I have ever taken!

I was reading the other day that we choose to walk by water as it's more relaxing.

Every Saturday morning since November pretty much I have met one of my closest friends for a walk.

It's a lockdown ritual I hope we will continue - years ago we would have been getting home from nights out at the time we now get up to meet to walk!

I love how friendship evolves as we evolve (and not sure I have 6am finishes in me anymore - although never say never ;-))

A coaching mindset is a distinct ICF competency - but what does it actually mean?

As coaches we have a responsibility to keep our mindset sharp for our clients.

Afterall, as our clients are growing, we too must grow alongside them!

The capabilities of our minds are far beyond our current comprehension. There’s always so much to learn and expand on - which is extremely exciting.

As coaches it’s imperative that we continually strive to improve our skills, expand our knowledge and experience through trainings, reading and coaching practice. It’s important to have a safe space to talk about coaching too (for example in my Coaching Hub membership).

However, there’s another layer to this mindset stuff and that’s the side that focuses on your own personal growth.

Some of my top hacks for working on your self development are journaling, exercising, reading, silence, diet and sleep - along with my weekly social media DETOX!

That’s right, each week it’s essential that we take some time away from our digital devices, step away from work to be present and stimulate our minds in new ways.

When our work/self balance is aligned we’re then able to perform cognitively at our best. The proof of that will be in the results we see!

What made you sign up to the professional coach diploma?

My background in education, and I still am very much involved in that sector and it's a professional industry. And they want professional qualifications and professional experience and I think credibility is really really important.

👉🏻 I wholeheartedly trust everything that you could use and provide I think first and foremost you were the person who encouraged me to sign up and not because you knew that and because you told me to sign up just because I know how awesome you are and I know how serious you take coaching.

👉🏻 The second reason why was because of the professional nature of it. I wanted to go into corporate. I wanted to go into schools and for them to know that I'd taken my learning and my profession seriously and I wanted that to kind of be behind me as well.

⭐️ It's everything that I thought it would be actually but probably, even more, I love the flexibility around it. I also would say that I've met some amazing people.

💪 I love a bit of feedback and I think that's so important because when you do qualify you could tend to be just alone and you don't have to be alone, but you can tend to be alone and it's nice to have someone to listen to you and give you you know, little bits of advice and also motivate and boost you to say, you know, you're doing a good job.

What would you say to somebody thinking about joining in February?

📞 I would say if you're considering coaching. I would definitely book a call and I would also say that if you're considering it to speak to either someone like me or you know, all the other wonderful people that have part of the program.
I love it. I love the fact that I can go into Kajabi and I can access the resources and they're all nicely filed there just for me and also the community.

Have you evaluated what matters to you?

We can go through life with our subconscious making decisions that aren’t aligned with what we truly want.

Often our decisions are based upon what we think we ‘should’ want. Or even what we assume we want - but haven’t truly probed!!

With all of the external noise being fed to us constantly through our phones it’s easy to see other people achieving and think ‘oh yes, I want to do that too’…

But is that what you really want?

So many of us have spent so long unconsciously tuning into the success of others that we can lose track of why we started all of this and what our own goals and visions are.

It’s so easy to get bogged down with performance goals and comparing yourself to others but you stand to gain nothing by taking this approach.

Let’s scale it back and get back to your ‘why’.

Set aside time tonight, at the weekend, or whenever you’re free, and write down what you care about most.

Don’t overthink it, just write down whatever comes up first for you.

Once you have an idea of your values you can then redefine your mission, which will allow you to regain clarity on what you want from your business.

Reprogramming your brain - how does it really work?

When I talk about the power of coaching I love to get into the science: if we are wanting to create a longer-term behavioural change it happens in the brain.

We see reprogramming your brain all the time: for me, it gives me visions of someone going in there and having a fish around!

🧠 What we really mean is creating new neural pathways and new connections which enable us to think, feel, be and act differently.

Behavioural neuroscience suggests we make long-lasting change through the following process:
➡️ Tap into a strong positive emotion in order to set your intention, this may be by accessing gratitude or a positive memory. By tapping into positive emotion we are able to engage more of our brains
➡️ Focus on what you want to change, take time to visualise and imagine that you have been successful and tap into how you think, feel and act
➡️ Commit to daily visualisation, thoughts and action which will help to strengthen your new neural pathway
➡️ Practice and celebrate your progress

🔥 When you are creating a new neural pathway your brain will want to go back to the old ways of being especially under stress: you can combine this work with uncovering and dismantling limiting beliefs and starting to pay attention to your thinking so you are aware of when your triggers are which can mean you go back into your old patterns and ways of being.
