Today I interview the brilliant Dahlia Dajani who has set up Entreprenursery which is a flexible co-working space for parents. It is a community of like-minded people to share ideas, expertise, and contacts to help build their unique ideas. The entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to attend numerous networking events, talks and showcase their hard work to a community of professionals.
The children will meanwhile, are taken care of in the fun creche with highly skilled staff. They will have the freedom to learn through play through themed activities, eat healthy organic snacks, as well as make many new friends!
1. What gave you the idea to start up your business?
It was simple – I was freelancing and working from home with my 1 year old and a nanny. The setup wasn’t as productive as I would have liked and being constantly interrupted wasn’t great. I tried working in coffee shops but they were too noisy, and I ended up spending so much on coffee to justify my using up the space! So, I starting looking for co-working spaces where I could bring my daughter with me. I found the third door, which I really liked, but it was just too logistically difficult! So, after some thought, I decided to start a similar concept myself locally in West Hampstead!
2. What did you do to prepare to start up your business?
I did the parentcubator at Bloomsbury Beginnings. Ann was super helpful and supportive throughout. I also spoke to Leo Wood from Playpen and interviewed many potential clients to see what they would be looking for. I got lots of golden nuggets of information! But now through my events, I get more valuable feedback from those who use my space.
3. Which aspects of your business did you need help with? Where did you get that help?
I got help by talking to people, lots of people, networking like mad, going to every event I could! Then I decided to invest in a website. So, I hired a start-up agency called the Square Daisy to build by website and design my logo.
4. Describe what your business does and who you target it at / your ideal client
My business Is a co-working space for parents. We have a crèche for the children, so every day is bring your kids to work! It’s fabulous for parents with young children (preschool age) who crave getting out and meeting likeminded people. Lots of connections are made through networking at the space. We have fast Wi-Fi, and hot drinks included. We also have regular workshops to help with parenting or business development skills. There’s something for everyone!
5. What is the most rewarding thing about having your own business?
I love connecting people. I love giving the opportunity for mums who have an idea to have the space to explore this idea to its fullest while their little one is cared for.
6. What has been the biggest challenge?
I think that has to be just getting the word out about what we do!
7. If you could go back and give yourself some advice what would it be?
Don’t worry – just keep going and you’ll do great!
